October is National Pet Wellness Month

Posted October 2013

October is National Pet Wellness Month and Bent Tree Animal Hospital, P.A. wants to help you keep your pet healthy and happy.  The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends that pets are examined by a veterinarian twice a year, since taking your pet to the vet once a year is the same as if you were to see a physician only once every six to eight years!  Wellness exams give your veterinarian the chance to evaluate your pet's overall health and to detect problems before they turn into serious illnesses.

As part of an annual wellness examination, routine blood testing, urinalysis and other tests are recommended for all pets.  Wellness testing helps to establish healthy baseline values and identify problems early, rather than waiting for obvious signs of illness.

We want to take this opportunity to offer you spectacular savings on ALL WELLNESS PACKAGES DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER!  Because so much can change with regard to your pet's physical health in such a short amount of time, you can't afford to have your pet miss even one exam!  Call us for more details or to schedule your pet's appointment today!

September is Senior Pet Health Month

Posted September 2013

September is Senior Pet Health Month and Bent Tree Animal Hospital, P.A. wants to help you keep your senior pet in good health.  Your pets age more quickly than you do, making it essential that your pet be examined at least once a year and even more frequently as they get older.  Often, pets begin to develop diseases common to their senior human counterparts, such as diabetes, heart disease, endocrine disease and cancer.  These diseases can go unnoticed in their early stages; therefore preventive health care is very important.

The aging process varies with breed and lifestyle.  Additional annual screening for diseases and other age related problems should begin at age seven for most cats and small to medium sized dogs.  Large and giant breed dogs should be screened starting at age five or six.  Check out our Senior Pet Age Chart and Wellness Checklist for general guidelines to follow when determining if your pet has reached the “senior years”.

Wellness testing helps to establish healthy baseline values and identify problems early, rather than waiting for obvious signs of illness.  Wellness testing is recommended for all senior animals as well as any pet exhibiting one or more of the following symptoms: weight loss, weight gain, increased thirst or urination, vomiting and/or diarrhea, lethargy, poor haircoat, or behavior changes.  These screening profiles may reveal that further, more specific tests may be needed.

Your pet’s health is important to us, so we want to take this opportunity to offer you fantastic savings during the month of September on our senior wellness packages. Call our office for more details!

February is National Pet Dental Health Month!

Posted January 2013

February is National Pet Dental Health Month! At Bent Tree Animal Hospital, PA, we want to share with you the importance of a healthy oral cavity for your pet. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, more than 85 percent of dogs and cats show signs of oral disease by age four. It is not only important to make your pet’s breath fresh and mouth clean, but it is essential for pets to have a healthy oral cavity.  A healthy oral cavity will significantly reduce the risk of infection and periodontal disease, which can affect other organ systems such as the heart, liver and kidneys.

Here’s the part that will make you SMILE! Have your pet’s teeth cleaned between January 28th and the end of March and receive a $30 gift certificate to our hospital for a future service! Space is limited, so give us a call at 972-862-7629 to schedule your pet today!
